The show premiered on 9 June , after its initially planned premiere in was scrapped and production suspended, following a dispute between the broadcaster and Paul O'Grady , the originally planned host for the programme. Every year, contestants of any age can audition for the show with whatever talent they wish to demonstrate, with auditionees seeking to impress a panel of judges in order to secure a place in the live episodes - the current lineup consists of Simon Cowell , Amanda Holden , Alesha Dixon , and David Walliams. Those that make it through the auditions compete against other acts in a series of live semi-finals to secure votes from the public and judges, with the winning two acts of each semi-final proceeding into the show's live final. The winning finalist is awarded two prizes - a cash prize, and a place within that year's performances for the Royal Variety Performance before members of the British Royal Family. As of [update] , the show has had thirteen winners, ranging from musicians and singers to variety acts, magicians and dancers. On average, it draws viewing figures of 9. On 3 June , following the conclusion of the thirteenth series, it was announced that in the wake of the success of America's Got Talent: The Champions , a British edition of the spin-off would be produced and aired in late , entitled Britain's Got Talent: The Champions.

Its removal meant that the public vote now decided on which two semi-finalists moved on, with the acts receiving the highest and second-highest tally of votes automatically entered into the live final. The change in format for semi-finals was not announced until 27 May ;  on 5 June, Cowell admitted he disliked this change, and intended to return to the original format for the next series.
