Although there are many subjects of meditation, we strongly recommend you start with focusing your total undivided attention on your breathing to gain some degree of shallow concentration. Remember that you are not practicing a deep absorption or pure concentration technique. You are practicing mindfulness for which you need only a certain degree of shallow concentration. You want to cultivate mindfulness culminating in insight and wisdom to realize the truth as it is. You want to know the working of your body-mind complex exactly as it is. During the event, President Kovind also spoke about the positive effects of Vipassana meditation on our body and mind, and thereby on the entire society, a report by IANS informed. That meditation helps us build concentration, while purifying our mind, might be known to all. But do you know what Vipassana meditation exactly is? Vipassana, roughly translated as ''Insight'' meditation, is known to be the oldest of Buddhist meditation practice, wrote Bhante Henepola Gunaratana, a Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka, in one of his articles on tricycle. According to Gunaratana, this method of meditation comes directly from Satipatthana Sutta Foundations of Mindfulness , which is said to have been taught by Buddha himself. Our ten days consisted of meditating, eating, light walking and no communication or forms of entertainment to distract the mind. I was bound to write something interesting, right?. Even before I returned to society; that moment when noble silence was lift and we could talk normally again, I felt a chaotic earthquake forming within myself. It had broken the emotional stability that I thought I had going into the experience. The next day when I was spit back out into the world and stepped into my apartment back in Buffalo, writing a blog post made me nauseous.

The time and effort a meditator puts in and the skills learnt in a Vipassana retreat will not be lost if one continues to practise regularly at home. Of course, the meditation cannot be done as intensively, and will have to be done discreetly, allowing for the situation one is in. The real challenge after a retreat is integrating the mindfulness practices established at the retreat into the daily routine. It has to be acknowledged that incorporating meditation into a busy life is not easy. Therefore, meditators needs to set themselves up to do it, good intention is not enough, it has to be purposely set up and there has to be commitment.
