A Vocal Music Education major at Colorado State University, Mandy lost her residual hearing in at age eighteen due to a connective tissue disorder that affected her nerves and left the program. She pursued several career options, including education, but returned to music in , her true passion could no longer be denied. She quickly became a regular performer at various venues and has released three albums thus far. With support from friends, family and her faith, Mandy continues to find joy in music.

Honestly, I never think I am going to be amazed or surprised by people and then you turn up. That was two years ago and the fourth-place contestant has gone on to build a career for herself in music with performances year-round at venues across the U. Plus, she has an album on the way. Mandy, who was studying to be a music teacher at Colorado State University, lost her hearing when she was 18 as a result of contracting Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, an auto-immune disorder. She went into a depression, but finally, five years after she lost her hearing, the now year-old began writing music and performing once again. Currently, Mandy is headlining a series of concerts, several of which will benefit Hearing the Call, a non-profit that sends audiologists around the world, changing lives for so many poor who could not access proper care.

And grace the stage she did. Twenty-nine-year-old Mandy Harvey lost her hearing due to a connective tissue illness when she was 18 years old. Before that she had been singing her whole life, and was even studying to be a vocal jazz professor. When she lost her hearing she gave it all up… until now that is. And so Harvey began training again, figuring out her pitch with machinery and muscle memory, and by feeling the music. The crowd, and Howie Mandell , may have been the first ones on their feet before Harvey could even finish her inspirational song, but by the end of it, everyone in the house was giving a standing ovation, and all four of the judges were positively grinning. He then slammed that golden buzzer with gusto, making it rain golden confetti on stage and heading up there for a celebratory hug.
