The open world title puts players in the role of a survivor who must scrounge the land for supplies and build their own base ahead of each seventh night, when the zombie hordes come in full force. Now, Telltale Games has released a more gameplay-centric trailer, which focuses on gory multiplayer action. Since the last console generation, most games have favored online multiplayer as opposed to supporting local multiplayer , so the ability for two players to sit down on the same console and play the game is sure to be a big hit among zombie survival fans. As the last portion of the video shows, interested gamers will be able to pick up a copy of 7 Days To Die on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One starting June 28th. Since the console edition of the game is published by Telltale Games, those who pre-order the title will also get character skins for popular The Walking Dead characters Lee Everett and Michonne. While State of Decay has certain base-building mechanics to it, 7 Days To Die is the only game that will allow players to craft their own buidlings by combining several materials in a block-based system similar to Minecraft.
The first is local split-screen play for two players. In order to play this way a single player game must first be selected and started and then the second player can join by connecting a second controller. The second is online peer-to-peer play for up to four players. In order to play this way one person must create a game and then others may join that game. The world will only be active as long as the host is playing.
It feels, even on consoles, that it is designed and meant to be played on the PC. The game feels ripe for mods, creativity, and community-based enhancements, but none of that applies to the weak console port. Blending crafting and survival mechanics, such as finding materials that you use to make clothes and weapons, with base-building elements that have players scrambling to gather supplies before night and the zombies descend. As a fan of survival and world-building games, 7 Days to Die appeared promising at first, but making my way through the world left me questioning all of its various pieces and mechanics as they attempted to come together into something more than a cluttered mess. Everything said here is addressing the Xbox One and PS4 editions of the game alone.
