Ode to Kwai Chang Caine

Kung Fu is a s American action-adventure martial arts western drama television series starring David Carradine. Sadly, I have to admit that it took me sometime before realizing that David Carradine was not Chinese but the plot had an excuse ready Kwai Chang Caine was the orphaned son of an American man and a Chinese woman. The plot of the series was clever. Sometime in the mids, after the death of his maternal grandfather, who took care of him for a period, young Caine joins a Chinese Shaolin monastery where he grows to become a Shaolin monk and a Kung Fu master. The young monk, now with a price on his head, escapes from China and heads to the American Wild West in order to find his American roots and perhaps some family.

Sign in. Ancient Warrior, an aged Indian accompanied by Caine, seeks burial in his sacred, ancestral land. But the burial site is located dead center in a violent, Indian-hating town called Purgatory. Caine becomes a Barbary Coast prizefighter in an effort to locate his brother before he's killed. Lordsville preacher Serenity Johnson is literally blinded by greed, while Caine locates his paternal grandfather, who has lived a bitter life blinded by prejudice.

Kung Fu is an American action - adventure martial arts western drama television series starring David Carradine. The series follows the adventures of Kwai Chang Caine , a Shaolin monk who travels through the American Old West , armed only with his spiritual training and his skill in martial arts, as he seeks Danny Caine, his half-brother. Many of the aphorisms used in the series are adapted from or derived directly from the Tao Te Ching , a book of ancient Taoist philosophy attributed to the sage Lao-tzu. In the pilot episode Caine's beloved mentor and elder, Master Po, is murdered by the Emperor's nephew; outraged, Caine retaliates by killing the nephew. With a price on his head, Caine flees China to the western United States, where he seeks to find his family roots and, ultimately, his half-brother, Danny Caine. Although it is his intention to avoid notice, Caine's training and sense of social responsibility repeatedly force him out into the open, to fight for justice or protect the underdog.

The Hollywood press and celebrity trackers everywhere are having a high time with the sad story of the late actor David Carradine's kung fu noir demise. There's speculation about suicide, what an ex-wife terms his "dark side," eccentric sexual practices, even murder. The family is reportedly suing a Thai tabloid for running forensic photos of the actor's corpse, and the hunt is presumably on for the person or persons, perhaps in Carradine's employ, who may have tied his hands behind his back that tragic night in his Bangkok luxury hotel room. I suppose one could go on and on about the price of celebrity, the life and self-image of a man at the twilight of a very visible career, the strange genetic tree that might have born fruit in the form of this man who was to some an iconic figure. If one were particularly heartless one could make jokes about sexual excess, and if one were particularly moralistic one might even odiously claim the actor got his just desserts. Personally, I reject all of those options in favor of some good old-fashioned mourning.
